ABOUT US
Welcome to our home and family of felines. We are a small, cageless cattery, located in a rural area of Yukon, Oklahoma, in the Heartland of America.
When I first became interested in purebred cats and the fancy, my chosen breed was Persians, in silver and golden colors. As many novices will do, I soon became interested in other colors, including bicolors and tabbies. I acquired kitties from several catteries, thinking the expansion would be good for my line. I soon found that some of these kitties were less than the standard quality and the kittens which were produced were not the healthy, vigorous, babies I had anticipated. Because of these beginnings, the resulting Kittiharbor name came into being, as I felt as if I was their harbor from the storms of life. Most of these kitties are no longer with us, but their memories will always remain within the walls of Kittiharbor.
Several years ago it was with great pleasure that I 'discovered' the Exotic, which is a short haired version of their sister breed, Persians. While bred to the Persian standard, they have short, plush coats that give the overall look of a little teddy bear. They are sometimes called a shorthaired teddybear, with a wonderful personality, which is both sweet and loving. To bring my dreams full circle, I am now breeding and showing, exotics, with some of the lines and dreams from my beginnings.
OUR CATTERY
Presently, we are breeding Exotic Shorthairs and use the Persian for outcrossing to keep our offspring in good type and coat and within the CFA Standard guidelines. When developing our lines some of the very best persian lines were used to obtain type, personality, and good health in the kittens.
We recently acquired two kittens from a relatively new and rare breed, the Snowshoe. This breed is the hybrid result of the "applehead" Siamese and the American Shorthair. They carry the pointed pattern in Seal, Blue and lynx point and the white spotting gene that was present in the older generations of Siamese. The resulting color and type is a moderate Siamese colored cat with required four white feet, two mittens in front with 'boots' extending up the hind legs. They are very friendly and curious and seem to have inherited the best of both worlds. They have been in existence now for almost twenty years and have been accepted by TICA registration with CFA registration pending. There are no known health problems or genetic abnormalities resulting in this hybrid and we are looking forward to some kittens next year. With the advent of ultrasound for scanning and detecting PKD (Polycistic Kidney Disease), all our breeding cats were scanned with any positive cats being neutered/spayed and retired. Today, we breed with only PKD NEGATIVE cats.
All breeding adults are tested annually for Felv, FIV and given annual booster vaccinations for all contagious diseases, including Bordetella.
When our kittens leave to go to their "forever" homes, they are guaranteed to be in good health and free from any genetic anomalies.
Raised underfoot with lots of TLC, they are very social, loving kittens.
